Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, recently visited President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock, marking a significant event in Nigeria’s judicial and executive collaboration.
During their meeting, Tinubu expressed heartfelt appreciation to the judiciary for their unwavering dedication and stressed the crucial role of mutual support in propelling Nigeria towards a brighter future.
Moreover, Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to implementing reforms aimed at improving the welfare and working conditions of judicial officers. Recognizing the challenges faced by the judiciary, he emphasized the need for modernization and fair compensation for judicial officers, highlighting their indispensable contribution to upholding justice in the nation.
”I recognize that the judiciary has one of the most unrewarded responsibilities. They are yet to modernize equipment and recordkeeping, and their progress towards improvement is slow. When you look at the career path of a judicial officer, they cannot practice the vocation for which they were trained after retirement. While the framers of the law may have their reasons, I perceive this differently and see this from a fair compensation angle that should benefit all,” President Tinubu affirmed.
In response, Chief Justice Olukayode Ariwoola commended Tinubu for his unwavering dedication to judicial reforms and expressed optimism for the nation’s trajectory under his leadership. Additionally, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, extended gratitude to Tinubu for his proactive steps in addressing the longstanding issue of judges’ salaries.
The meeting between Chief Justice Ariwoola and Tinubu underscores the importance of cooperation between the judiciary and the executive in advancing Nigeria’s legal system and ensuring justice for all citizens.
