The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State has placed its state women leader, Maryam Suleiman, under suspension due to accusations of severe misconduct.
A letter of suspension, dated March 31st and signed by the APC chairman and secretary of Badarawa/Malali ward, Ali Maishago and Zakkah Bassahuwa, stated that Suleiman was suspended for purportedly tarnishing Governor Uba Sani’s reputation and for unauthorized disclosure of the party’s internal dispute, which negatively impacted the governor’s image.
Suleiman was also accused of orchestrating an attack on the governor’s political adviser, Manzo Maigari, using hired thugs. The letter highlighted that Suleiman’s actions were in violation of Article 21, 2 (v) of the APC constitution. The party declared her suspension as indefinite until the allegations are thoroughly investigated.
In a widely circulated video in Hausa language, Suleiman criticized Governor Sani’s comments about the substantial debt burden inherited from the administration of former governor Nasir El-Rufai. During a town hall meeting with stakeholders on Saturday, Governor Sani disclosed that he inherited a debt of $587 million, n85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities from the El-rufai administration. He stated that this financial burden has rendered the current government incapable of paying workers’ salaries due to deductions from the federal allocation.
However, in response to the governor’s statement, Suleiman, through a video she posted on social media, accused Governor Sani of poor governance and cautioned him against blaming El-rufai for his shortcomings.
