Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has reiterated his commitment to the party, denying rumors that he plans to leave.

In an interview with journalists in Gombe, Obi stated that he is more focused on ensuring peace and resolving the party’s challenges rather than leaving it.

Obi made this statement after inaugurating a borehole he donated to Tike Ram Market in Pantami, Gombe State. He emphasized that there is no truth to the rumor that he plans to leave the Labour Party, expressing optimism that the party will overcome its challenges and forge ahead as one family.

The former governor of Anambra also addressed speculations about him running for the 2027 presidency with former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai. Obi stated that his commitment is to the success of Nigeria today, not tomorrow, and that his concern is about Nigerians living in a better society with a better life.

Obi’s donation of the borehole is part of his efforts to support Nigerians, especially the poor, during the Ramadan season. The borehole is expected to help cushion the impact of the current challenges faced by the people of Gombe State.

Recall that there were speculations that Obi might have started shopping for another political platform, in spite of being guaranteed the LP 2027 presidential ticket at its convention. However, the NLC spokesman, Benson Upah, has stated that the NLC would not stand in the way of Obi should he decide to defect to another political platform. Upah emphasized that the right of choice is available to Obi, and if he chooses to leave, it is his preference, but if he chooses to remain, Obi is an asset to the party.
