Peter Obi, a Coalition for Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has invited Nollywood actress Tonto Dike to join the Borehole water challenge.
This invitation comes after Tonto Dike expressed disappointment with the borehole donated by Peter Obi in Zaria, Kaduna state.
The Coalition for Peter Obi (CPO) responded to Tonto Dike’s criticism, urging her to align with the movement for a better Nigeria rather than with factions that defend the status quo. The CPO pointed out that the borehole project is a step towards addressing the clean water crisis in Nigeria, where an estimated 179 million people lack access to clean water.
The Nigerian Institute of Water Engineers (NIWE) reported in March 2024 that Nigeria’s clean water scarcity affects over 85% of the population. While Tonto Dike has criticized Peter Obi’s efforts, the CPO has not found any criticism of the government’s inaction on this issue on her social media handle.
The CPO invited Tonto Dike to reflect on her stance and join the Borehole challenge to provide water to those in need across Nigeria. The CPO emphasized that little drops of water make a mighty ocean and that every effort counts towards solving the clean water crisis.
The CPO reminded Tonto Dike that Peter Obi founded the borehole project out of his own pocket, bringing joy to the beneficiaries who now have access to clean water. The CPO urged Tonto Dike to join the challenge and contribute to reducing the number of Nigerians without access to clean water.
