The Nigerian Army is currently investigating the tragic incident involving the alleged killing of Hauwakulu Tabra by a soldier, Private Adamu Muhammad, at a barracks in Enugu State.

The incident took place on April 11, 2024, with the discovery of the victim’s body within the barracks the following day.

In a statement released by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, it was expressed with regret that the young lady lost her life at the hands of a soldier she was reportedly in an amorous relationship with.

Preliminary investigations have pointed towards the soldier as the perpetrator, who is currently in detention for further inquiry into the motive behind the tragic act.

Contrary to reports from an online platform, the Army clarified that the suspect was not a former member of the terror group Boko Haram. The Nigerian Army emphasized that it has never enlisted repentant Boko Haram members and highlighted the considerations given to the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members who have shown dedication and loyalty in the fight against terrorism in the North East.

The Army extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the public that justice will prevail in this matter. The statement emphasized the zero-tolerance policy towards unprofessional conduct or indiscipline within the ranks of the Nigerian Army.
