Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of his beloved elder brother, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, who was the first civilian governor of Abia State and a former minister of science, technology, and innovation.

Dr. Onu was an exceptional gentleman, a dedicated patriot, and a Nigerian who transcended tribal boundaries. He served his country in various roles, making significant contributions to our educational development as a lecturer and author.

Dr. Onu was a leader who advocated for the peace and progress of the nation. He was a staunch supporter of justice, equity, and good governance, and was deeply committed to the nation’s development.

Understanding the crucial need for our nation to transition from consumption to production, he implemented several initiatives to enhance local production, thereby contributing to the nation’s development.

The passing of Dr. Onu is a significant loss to our nation. We pray for God’s comfort for his family and all those grieving his loss, and for the strength to endure this irreplaceable loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
