On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the spokesperson for Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, issued a statement.

He clarified that Peter Obi did not endorse Julius Abure, the LP chairman, during his recent visit to the Labour Party.

The purpose of Obi’s visit was reconciliation, not endorsement. This was clearly stated by Julius Abure in his speech during Obi’s visit. Obi himself reiterated this in his speech, emphasizing peace and his ongoing pursuit of a better Nigeria for the less privileged.

Leaders of the NLC/TUC Political Arm, Comrades Titus Amba and Chris Uyot, who were informed of Obi’s travel plans, also met with him. They had an extensive discussion about the same peace initiative. Obi has consistently expressed his desire to unite everyone into a strong family, rather than supporting one individual over another.

In all his meetings with stakeholders, Obi has always advocated for peace and urged everyone not to lose sight of the ultimate goal – alleviating the suffering and pain of Nigerians. As the standard-bearer of the LP, Obi plans to continue meeting with key stakeholders and groups to build an inclusive political family united by the common dream of rescuing Nigeria.
