Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, the erstwhile Emir of Gaya, has expressed acceptance of his dethronement, attributing it to divine will.

Abdulkadir was one of the five premier monarchs affected by the annulment of the law that fragmented the Kano Emirate and promoted them. In 2019, former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje appointed new Emirs and ousted Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi from his position as Emir of Kano the subsequent year.

However, upon ratifying a new law on Thursday, Governor Abba Bichi Yusuf dismissed all the emirs appointed by Ganduje. He ordered them to leave their palaces within 48 hours and surrender their duties to the Commissioner of Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs.

In a conversation with BBC Hausa, the deposed king expressed no resentment towards anyone regarding the governor’s decision. He also stated that he had no intentions of contesting the decision in court and was open to serving in a different role if offered.
