The Federal High Court in Kano has issued an eviction order against the reappointed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, from the Gidan Rumfa Palace.

This development follows closely on the heels of a state high court’s order, under Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, that prohibited Emir Sanusi II’s eviction.

It’s important to remember that Aminu Ado Bayero was dethroned last week after the Kano Emirate Council bill was amended and subsequently approved by the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

On Tuesday, the Federal High Court issued a new directive instructing the police to ensure that all rights and privileges belonging to the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero, are accorded to him.

Justice S. A. Amobeda, the presiding judge who issued the exparte order, stated that the decision was made in the interest of justice and maintaining peace in Kano.

The order restrains the respondents and any other person or authority from harassing the applicant or infringing on his rights in any way until the Originating Motion is heard and determined. It also prevents the respondents from denying the applicant the use of his official residence and palace at the Emir’s Palace, Kofar Kudu, and from evicting anyone residing within the palace illegally.

The case has been postponed until June 4, 2024, for a hearing.
