Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, shared a heartfelt statement on his X handle.

“Yesterday, Friday 31st May, I joined the good people of Asaba and other Nigerians in celebrating the life of the revered traditional ruler of the town, the Asagba of Asaba, HRM Joseph Chike Edozien, in Asaba, Delta State.”

Obi praised HRM Joseph Chike Edozien as a lover of peace and unity who worked tirelessly to promote a more united Nigeria. He highlighted Edozien’s deep passion for education, which was evident not only in his personal academic pursuits but also in his extensive support for education across the broader society.

“He remained at the vanguard of promoting good governance in the nation. I pray that the new Asagba of Asaba, taking up the mantle of leadership after him, will be a thoroughbred leader of his caliber, who will continue his good legacies,” Obi added.

Obi expressed his condolences, praying for eternal rest for the late ruler’s soul and strength for his family, the Asaba Kingdom, the government and people of Delta State, and all Nigerians to bear the loss.

The event was graced by notable figures, including Former Governors James Ibori and Ifeanyi Okowa, Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, the Attah of Igala, and other respected dignitaries.
