Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has directed the Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAS) to immediately take charge of their councils.
This decision comes after the tenure of the 23 elected local government chairmen, their deputies, and councilors expired on June 17, 2024. These officials were predominantly loyal to former governor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
In a statewide broadcast at Government House in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara commended the outgoing elected local government chairmen and councillors for their dedicated service during their three-year tenure. He thanked them on behalf of the state and wished them well in their future endeavors.
Governor Fubara emphasized his commitment to upholding the constitution of the federal republic, maintaining law and order, and providing leadership and direction to the people. He urged the heads of local government administration to take charge of the councils with renewed vigor and readiness to serve. Further directives will follow as the state continues its journey toward greater accomplishments.
The recent court ruling declared the seats of lawmakers who defected from PDP to APC as vacant, rendering all laws and resolutions made by them null and void.
