At least eight people were killed and many more injured in a suicide bomb attack at a wedding celebration in Tashan Mararaba, Gwoza town, Borno State.

A lone female suicide bomber detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), causing a deafening explosion that reverberated throughout the town.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the bomber targeted a busy motor park known as Marrarraban Gwoza. The attack coincided with guests returning from a wedding celebration, heightening the panic.

According to eyewitness Muhammed Kasim, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the explosion occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. “We heard a very loud sound of explosives, accompanied by dust; then we saw bodies on the ground,” Kasim recounted.

Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, providing immediate assistance to the victims and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals in Gwoza.

The Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusuf Lawal, confirmed the attack, stating that it was indeed carried out by a female suicide bomber. He added that the Divisional Police Officer in Gwoza reported at least six fatalities and 15 others hospitalized.
