The Federal High Court in Kaduna has adjourned the hearing of the case filed by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai against the State House of Assembly and the Attorney General of Kaduna State to July 17th, 2024.
El-Rufai is contesting the House committee’s report, which accused him of misappropriating N423 billion during his eight-year administration.
During the initial hearing on Monday, Sani Katu, SAN, representing the first respondent, the Kaduna State House of Assembly, informed the court that they intend to file a preliminary objection, challenging the court’s jurisdiction over the case. He requested additional time to file all necessary applications.
Similarly, the Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General of Kaduna State, Sule Shauaibu, SAN, who is also a defendant, made a request for more time.
Counsel to El-Rufai, Sule Umoru, did not oppose these requests for an extension.
After considering the submissions, Justice R.M. Aikawa adjourned the case to July 17th, 2024, allowing the respondents time to file their applications, including the substantive application.
Former Governor Nasir El-Rufai initiated the lawsuit on June 26th, 2024, challenging the Kaduna State House of Assembly’s probe report, which indicted him for corruption during his tenure. El-Rufai seeks to have the Assembly report declared null and void, arguing that it violated his constitutional right to a fair hearing since he was not given the opportunity to defend himself against the allegations.
