In a significant move, the Bauchi State Government has announced the closure of all Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) on the day of the upcoming nationwide anti-government protest.

This decision was revealed by Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, the Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board, during a media engagement event held in Bauchi on Tuesday.

Dr. Mohammed explained that the closure is a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding the lives of healthcare staff and patients amid potential security threats associated with the protest. He indicated that security reports have suggested that PHCs could be targets during the demonstrations, prompting the government’s proactive approach to ensure safety.

“The government is not willing to risk the lives of our staff and patients,” Dr. Mohammed stated. He assured the public that normal healthcare services would resume once the protest concludes. Furthermore, he mentioned that the board has coordinated with security agencies to ensure the protection of healthcare facilities throughout the state during this period.

This decision reflects the government’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of its citizens in the face of civil unrest.
