Nigerian actor Chidi Mokeme took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to assert that protesting is a constitutional right for citizens.

He stated that governments have consistently been insincere and untruthful to the people who elected them.

Mokeme likened protests to elections, where peaceful citizens exercise their civic rights. However, he noted that things often turn violent when politicians unleash thugs to discredit the process. The actor condemned violence of any kind and emphasized that citizens’ rights must be protected.

Mokeme, known for his roles in films like “Shanty Town”, “76”, and as the host of “Gulder Ultimate Search”, has been vocal about issues affecting Nigeria. He believes that while protests should remain peaceful, the government has a responsibility to safeguard the rights of its citizens.

The actor’s statement comes amidst planned protests in the country. Mokeme’s stance reflects his commitment to using his platform to address societal issues and advocate for the rights of Nigerians
