Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has extended an invitation to organizers of the planned nationwide protest to bring their grievances to the State Government House.

Governor Yusuf assured that he would personally attend to the protesters and present their demands to President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking to business leaders, traditional rulers, and religious leaders at the Government House in Kano on Wednesday, Governor Yusuf emphasized his commitment to addressing the concerns of the protesters. He stated, “I will not run away. Let them bring their positions, and I will go with my stakeholders to President Tinubu and present our position to him.”

However, the governor firmly stated that any acts of violence during the protests, scheduled to commence on Thursday, August 1, would not be tolerated. He stressed that “protests will not lead to any constructive outcomes” and urged individuals to exercise their right to protest peacefully.

“We have received credible intelligence that certain disgruntled individuals are recruiting thugs to incite trouble in the state. I assure you that the government will not tolerate such actions. Instead, I extend an invitation to those who wish to demonstrate to come to the Government House, where I will be happy to listen to their grievances and engage in constructive dialogue,” Governor Yusuf added.

Highlighting the initiatives of his administration, Governor Yusuf spoke about the various programs aimed at improving the welfare of Kano’s citizens. He mentioned that over 1,000 students are being sponsored to pursue various courses abroad, and a monthly empowerment program for women has already benefited over 5,000 women with a stipend of ₦50,000 each, totaling over ₦260 million.

“We are also committed to providing access to clean drinking water in all metropolitan areas and have recently procured ₦1 billion worth of fertilizer, distributed free of charge to rural communities to boost food production and support agricultural development,” the governor said.

Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of unity and constructive efforts to address the challenges faced by the state, including hunger and other critical issues. He also warned against the negative impact of social media abuse of leaders, urging for a collective effort to achieve progress and stability.

In closing, Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance for violence and destructive behavior during the protests, stressing that the destruction of government property and looting of shops would not be condoned.
