Petrol prices in Kano have surged dramatically, reaching N1,200 per litre at some filling stations, while Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) outlets have adjusted their pump prices to N904 per litre.

According to a report by Daily Trust, the NNPC stations are currently experiencing long queues as motorists rush to purchase fuel amid the rising costs.

An NNPCL official, who chose to remain anonymous, mentioned that the station was awaiting further instructions before commencing sales at the new price. “We just arrived this morning (Tuesday) and noticed the price adjustment on our machines. We are now waiting for directives to start selling,” the official said.

Motorists expressed their frustration over the sudden increase in fuel prices. Isah Muhammad, one of the drivers in line, lamented, “Where are we heading to in this country? How do we survive now? It’s very unfortunate we are witnessing this.”

Another motorist, Ibrahim Saleh, recalled his past experiences with fluctuating fuel prices: “I remember when I used to sell petrol on the black market at N95. One day, during the late President Shehu Musa Yar’adua’s regime, we went to buy fuel, expecting an increase, but they adjusted the price to N65 instead. It was unforgettable. In Nigeria, once prices go up, they never seem to come down.”
