The Sokoto State Obidient Movement and Labour Party stakeholders have expressed appreciation for the leadership of Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate and Abia State Governor Alex Otti for their timely intervention in resolving the party’s internal crisis.

This comes in light of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reaffirming that Julius Abure is no longer recognized as the Labour Party’s National Chairman. INEC clarified that Abure’s tenure, along with other members of the party’s National Working Committee, ended in June 2024, making his continued self-identification as party chairman unconstitutional.

This confirmation was revealed in a counter-affidavit filed by INEC in response to a Labour Party lawsuit. The lawsuit challenged the party’s exclusion from refresher training on uploading party agents ahead of the Edo and Ondo governorship elections. The commission’s decision further supports the party’s recent leadership changes.

In a joint declaration following a strategic meeting at the Labour Party’s state secretariat in Sokoto, the Obidient Movement hailed the appointments of Senator Nenadi Usman, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, and Ibrahim Umar to new leadership roles. They also denounced the actions of Julius Abure, urging him to pursue reconciliation for the sake of party unity.

The stakeholders emphasized that the party’s new leadership has strengthened its position as Nigeria’s premier opposition force. They urged citizens, especially in Sokoto State, to support the Labour Party and its mission to restore integrity in governance. The statement also encouraged party members to focus on grassroots mobilization and build a credible membership registry.

In closing, the Sokoto Obidient Movement called on disillusioned members to rejoin the party in its journey toward national redemption, while also urging Sokoto residents to stand behind Labour Party candidates in upcoming elections. Their message was one of unity, progress, and unwavering commitment to reclaiming Nigeria for the people.

Conclusion:
With renewed leadership and a focus on national recovery, the Labour Party and its stakeholders in Sokoto State are marching forward, undeterred by the challenges ahead.
