Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has demanded the resignation of his predecessor, Bello Matawalle, who currently serves as Minister of State for Defence.

Lawal’s call comes amid serious allegations that Matawalle sponsored banditry and engaged in money laundering during his tenure as governor.

In an interview with TVC, Lawal asserted that if Matawalle possessed any integrity, he would step down and address the numerous allegations against him.

“If I were him, I would resign and face all the accusations related to insecurity and money laundering,” Lawal stated, referencing the overwhelming evidence suggesting Matawalle’s involvement in criminal activities.

Additionally, Lawal criticized Matawalle for allegedly depleting the state’s finances, claiming that he inherited an empty treasury.

“When I took office, there was not even N4 million in the government account, and there was a backlog of salaries stretching back four months,” he revealed.

He further noted that prior to his administration, no Zamfara students had taken the WAEC or NECO exams for three years, necessitating a significant financial outlay to settle outstanding debts to these examination bodies.

Lawal’s comments highlight a stark transition in Zamfara’s governance, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency in the state’s leadership.
