Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has issued a statement through his X (formerly Twitter) handle as the campaign for the Edo State governorship election concludes today, September 21, 2024.
Obi expressed concern over unsettling comments from political parties, with one admitting to having promoted fake leaders in the past—hinting that their current offerings might be no better—and another declaring the election a “do-or-die affair.”
In contrast, Obi emphasized Labour Party’s commitment to genuine leadership founded on competence, capacity, and compassion. “For us, elections are not war,” he said. “They are opportunities to present authentic leadership and drive meaningful development.”
He concluded with his trademark optimism, stating, “A new Nigeria is POssible!”
