A mild drama unfolded early Sunday morning when Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki was removed from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation center in Benin.
Arriving at the INEC premises before dawn, Obaseki sparked protests from members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Dennis Idahosa, the running mate of Monday Okpebholo.
The APC quickly demanded the governor’s exit, arguing he had no right to be present as he is not a candidate.
After nearly two hours, Obaseki was escorted out around 3:30 a.m. by Deputy Inspector General of Police Frank Mba, with mobile policemen urging him to leave. Following the incident, APC National Secretary Surajudeen Basiru emphasized, “He is not a candidate. He has no reason to be here.”
