The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started the collation of results for the governorship election held in Edo State on Saturday.

Key officials, including INEC National Commissioner Prof. Rhoda Gumus, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Dr. Anugbum Omuoha, and State Returning Officer Prof. Faruk Adams Kuta, were present at the collation center.

In his opening remarks, Omuoha assured that INEC would not disappoint the people of Edo during the electoral process. He emphasized that the will of the people would prevail and urged citizens to remain patient and understanding.

The main contenders in the election are Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP).

Edo State is divided into 18 Local Government Areas, including Akoko-Edo, Egor, Esan Central, Esan North-East, Esan South-East, Esan West, Etsako Central, Etsako East, Etsako West, Igueben, Ikpoba-Okha, Oredo, Orhionmwon, Ovia North-East, Ovia South-West, Owan East, Owan West, and Uhunmwonde.
