The Abia State Government has confirmed that workers across all sectors will start receiving the newly approved minimum wage from October.

This announcement was made on Monday by Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information, during a media briefing held after the State Executive Council meeting, chaired by Governor Alex Otti.

Kanu emphasized that the revised wage structure will benefit “every category of workers,” ensuring equitable salary adjustments across the workforce.

In addition to the wage update, the state is focusing on improving its judicial system. Kanu revealed that plans are in place to build court halls in all 17 local government areas, aimed at enhancing the administration of justice across the state.

Moreover, the commissioner outlined an upcoming health initiative. The Ministry of Health is set to conduct a free medical outreach in Ugwunnagbo next week, offering services such as free consultations, maternal and child health care, and diagnostic tests to residents at no cost.

On a lighter note, Kanu reaffirmed Governor Otti’s commitment to supporting local athletes. The government plans to honor para-athletes who have brought pride to the state, including Miss Onyinyechi Mark, who won a gold medal in the 61 kg category, and Miss Esther Nworgu, who secured a silver medal in the 41 kg category.
