The Lagos State Police Command has summoned four officers following accusations of extorting ₦1 million from National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.

The incident was exposed by X user Olúyẹmí Fásípè, using the handle @YemieFash, in a post shared on Thursday.

The officers, allegedly attached to the Kafaru Oluwole Tinubu House at Area C Police Command, Surulere, Lagos, reportedly harassed the corps members during a stop-and-search operation. Fásípè claimed that after the officers threatened the corps members, they were taken to the police station and “robbed.”

In videos shared by Fásípè, a police officer is seen demanding car documents from the vehicle’s occupants. Fásípè wrote, “Dear @BenHundeyin, your officers in Surulere extorted ₦1 million from three corps members today. They were threatened with firearms, kidnapped, and taken to Kafaru Oluwole Tinubu House at the Area C Police Command, where they were robbed. Their only offense was not having a physical copy of a driver’s license. This is evil.”

He further alleged that the officer in plain clothes, identified as the “boss,” was the one who collected the money from the corps members. Fásípè provided evidence, including transaction receipts and a voice note from one of the victims explaining how the officers extorted the funds.

Responding to the allegations on Friday, Lagos Police Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the officers have been summoned, and their trial is underway. Hundeyin stated, “The men have been summoned, and their trial has commenced. We urge the complainants to visit the Complaint Response Unit at the State Headquarters to provide testimony during the ongoing trial.”
