Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has praised Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the successful conduct of local government elections in Rivers State.

In a statement personally signed on Sunday, Atiku lauded the governor for upholding the integrity of the elections despite significant challenges.

Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 presidential candidate, emphasized that the conclusion of these elections marks the beginning of governance in the state. He noted that the peaceful execution of the elections is a victory for the people of Rivers State.

In his statement, Atiku remarked, “With the conclusion of the local government election in Rivers State, the shadows of political intimidation and judicial manipulation have dissipated, clearing the path for governance to take root. From the bustling heart of Port Harcourt to the serene shores of Onne, the people have spoken clearly, reaffirming their commitment to democracy.”

He continued by applauding the resolve of the citizens, stating that the people of Rivers have rejected political oppression and manipulation. Atiku extended his congratulations to the newly elected local government leaders, urging them to prioritize the welfare of the people and to steer clear of oppressive and self-serving political ambitions.

“Ultimately, it is the people who have triumphed, with their right to choose their leaders preserved within our democratic framework,” Atiku concluded.
