Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Government in Exile, has postponed the anticipated December 2nd declaration of Biafra’s restoration, after previously soliciting funds from his followers to support the movement.
Ekpa, who leads an armed faction associated with unrest in Nigeria’s South-East region, announced the delay in a video shared on social media, stating that the struggle for Biafra may extend for 23 years if necessary.
This announcement follows Ekpa’s controversial claim of securing a $57.5 billion loan from the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) to support the establishment of a new government, a tweet he later deleted.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), refuted the claim, calling the tweet “outrageous” and urging people not to misuse her name. “No sensible person will believe it,” she added, emphasizing that the loan claim is entirely false, after Ekpa tweeted to thank her.
