A tragic incident occurred in Enugu State, Nigeria, where popular Ogene musician Okezie Mba, known as Igbo-Jah, was shot dead by trigger happy police inspector.
The shooting happened on Friday while Mr. Mba was reportedly leaving a friendly visit at the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad headquarters.
Eyewitnesses stated that police operatives began firing indiscriminately, resulting in Mr. Mba being struck by a bullet. Despite efforts to rush him to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries en route.
The Enugu State Police have confirmed the incident and stated that the officer involved has been arrested and detained for the murder of the musician.
Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe described the event as unfortunate and unacceptable, emphasizing that an investigation has been ordered to ensure appropriate disciplinary actions are taken against the responsible parties.
Governor Peter Mbah also expressed his condolences and called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr. Mba’s death, highlighting the loss to both the music community and the Igbo culture
