In response to rising social media campaigns by Igbo youth against forced sit-at-home orders by factions linked to Simon Ekpa and Nnamdi Kanu’s IPOB, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has initiated a comprehensive advocacy campaign across all 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to end enforced sit-at-home practices in the state.
Anambra Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga announced on Monday that the CP launched the Security and Anti-Sit-at-Home Assessment Patrol, starting in Awka South LGA. Addressing residents, local leaders, and community heads, CP Itam called for strong cooperation with the police, emphasizing the importance of reporting any suspicious activity promptly.
In his address, CP Itam provided updates on recent violent incidents in Nibo and Ifite, confirming that police are actively pursuing suspects identified in these cases.
“The Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam today, November 4, 2024, began a security and anti-sit-at-home advocacy campaign across Anambra State’s 21 LGAs,” the statement read.
The campaign’s initial stop at Awka South LGA allowed CP Itam to meet with community leaders, youth representatives, members of the Anambra Vigilante Group, and other stakeholders. He urged them to partner with law enforcement to bolster sustainable security measures and increase community vigilance. CP Itam also encouraged residents to report suspicious individuals or movements to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency hotline at 07039194332.
The CP’s anti-sit-at-home campaign included visits to divisional police headquarters in Ogidi, Obosi, Okpoko, Harbour, and Awada, reinforcing the message of community cooperation for safety across the state.
