Pastor E.A. Adeboye stated that his prayers helped prevent the naira from collapsing to ₦10,000 per dollar.
He also supported President Bola Tinubu’s removal of petrol subsidies, criticizing those who opposed the move for creating additional economic challenges. Adeboye emphasized the need for divine intervention to address Nigeria’s financial struggles.
Speaking at the Special Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja, Adeboye attributed Nigeria’s financial struggles to its continued reliance on imported fuel, despite being an oil-rich nation. He lamented the billions wasted on non-functional refineries, which have perpetuated the country’s dependence on petrol imports.
Addressing the contentious removal of fuel subsidies, Adeboye acknowledged the uproar it caused among those who profited from the system but maintained that the subsidy removal was necessary. “When the president cancelled the subsidy on petrol imports, those who benefited from it became upset and created more problems,” he explained.
Amid the naira’s sharp decline, Adeboye emphasized the importance of prayer in averting economic disaster. He expressed gratitude for collective prayers that, according to him, mitigated the crisis. “If God hadn’t intervened, $1 could have been worth ₦10,000 by now. This illustrates how much we need prayers,” he remarked.
Adeboye underscored the urgent need for divine assistance, saying, “We need help, and it’s not human help; it’s divine help.”
