Rev. Father Kelvin Ugwu, a prominent Nigerian Catholic priest, recently expressed his views on Facebook regarding Pastor E.A. Adeboye’s assertion that divine intervention prevented the naira from collapsing to ₦10,000 per dollar.
Ugwu questioned the apparent inconsistency in God’s stance towards Nigerian leadership, noting how God was critical of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration but seems to be in favor of the current administration under President Bola Tinubu.
He emphasized that his intention in sharing this perspective is not to mock anyone but to highlight how some individuals may be mocking God.
In his post, Father Ugwu remarked:
“The reason we share this type of video is not because we are happy to but because we are left wondering how the God who was dissatisfied with Jonathan’s administration is suddenly in romance with Tinubu’s administration. In other words, we are sharing this not to mock anyone but to show everyone how some people mock God.”
This statement has sparked debates online, with Nigerians drawing attention to what they perceive as a shift in Pastor Adeboye’s approach to political leadership. They recall his vocal protests during President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure in 2010, particularly concerning issues like insecurity and fuel price hikes. Now, they argue, despite the hardships caused by Tinubu’s policies, Pastor Adeboye appears supportive, leading some to accuse him of hypocrisy.
