Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed the idea of fleeing into self-imposed exile despite alleged threats of intimidation and possible arrest.

El-Rufai has been at odds with the federal government and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), with some party members attributing his criticisms to his failed ministerial nomination.

Addressing a claim on X about a plot to arrest and detain him, El-Rufai stated that such rumors have been circulating since July 2024. He emphasized that he would remain in Nigeria and not succumb to pressure.

“They have sent similar messages of intimidation and threats through many of my friends, family, and political associates because they want me to go on self-imposed exile. I will not,” he asserted.

El-Rufai further revealed that he has put his academic and language-learning plans on hold to spend more time in Nigeria.

“Silence is no longer golden. Inaction has never been an option,” he declared.

Reflecting on past experiences, El-Rufai noted that arrest, detention, and torture of political adversaries are not new, recalling his own previous detentions for expressing dissent.

“There is always a morning after the arrest, detention, or torture, and political life continues. As for death, it happens only when Allah wills, and it is the destiny of every human,” he concluded.
