A Magistrates’ Court in Akure, Ondo State, has sentenced a herdsman, identified as Dan-Bello, to 10 years in prison for flouting the state’s anti-open grazing law.

The court also found him guilty of destroying farmland crops estimated at N50 million.

The judgment underscores the enforcement of Ondo State’s stance against open grazing, a law enacted to protect farmlands and foster peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers.

Dan-Bello’s actions were ruled to have caused significant economic loss to local farmers, prompting the harsh sentence as a deterrent to others.
