Channels Television host Seun Okinbaloye has warned that artificial intelligence generated fake voter cards are already being used to rig Nigeria’s 2027 general election through a compromised voters register.
He delivered the alert on Friday night during the closing moments of the Politics Today programme.
Okinbaloye told Nigerians that elections are usually not rigged on voting day itself. He said people may keep jumping around town halls and political platforms but the actual fixing of the 2027 election began a few months ago and remains ongoing.
He urged Nigerians to take action and speak up immediately because if they do not the election is already rigged and the time to clean the register is now so the damage does not happen.
He stressed that a voters register lacking integrity cannot produce a credible result. Intelligence and early signs show politicians have started manipulating the list with underage registrations, double entries, ghost voters, fake names, names of dead people and artificial intelligence generated photographs appearing across the country.
Okinbaloye called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to begin a thorough audit and cleanup at once to remove these bad records.
The warning comes as concerns grow over the preliminary voters register. Screenshots of photographs that look artificially generated have circulated widely on social media, including entries from parts of Edo State such as Etsako West.
INEC’s Director of Information and Communication Technology Dr Lawrence Bayode has admitted that some registration officers across states used their official login details to introduce irregular records into the system.
He said some photographs were created with artificial intelligence tools while others resulted from very poor registration practices. The commission detected many of these through its automated biometric checks.
INEC has received thousands of claims and objections during the public display period and is working to clean the register. The commission aims to finish the process and certify the final list by December 15.
The preliminary register added more than nine million new names to the roughly ninety three million used in the 2023 election. Bayode has said INEC itself has not used artificial intelligence for registration and that the affected records are being identified and corrected before the final version is released.
Okinbaloye’s message is that the foundation for any later problems is already being laid in the register today. He said if the list stays dirty the election will stay dirty and INEC must act now so that the 2027 vote can still be credible.
