The Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has expressed profound shock and disbelief over the death of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari’s media aide, Garba Shehu, confirmed the news in a brief statement released on Sunday. “The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, this afternoon in a clinic in London,” he revealed.
Reacting to the news on X (formerly Twitter), Okonjo-Iweala admitted that she had been unaware of the gravity of Buhari’s health condition. She wrote, “Unbelievable! I did not know just how ill HE President Buhari was and minutes after sending my get well wishes I have just learned that he passed away. I am so very sad.”
She further prayed for the late leader’s soul, saying, “May the Soul of HE @MBuhari rest in perfect peace.”
The WTO chief also extended her heartfelt sympathies to Buhari’s family, close aides, and associates, offering “my deepest condolences to the entire Buhari family and his close aides and associates.”
