The African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Media Frontiers has issued an unequivocal condemnation of recent comments made by former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, concerning the political alignment of Mr. Peter Obi.

Sheriff’s suggestion that Obi may return to a political party he previously departed from is both factually misleading and ideologically dishonest. It undermines the credibility of a public figure who has consistently championed transparency, accountability, and people-first governance in Nigeria.

Mr. Obi’s decision to leave his former party was guided by principle, not political convenience. His actions and words have repeatedly reflected a commitment to building a more responsive and ethical political culture one that resonates with millions of Nigerians seeking authentic change.

Such remarks from Mr. Sheriff not only trivialize the ideological shifts shaping Nigeria’s democracy but also reflect a broader attempt to derail the progress of emerging movements that challenge the entrenched status quo. The ADC sees this as an effort to distract the electorate through sensationalism and narrative manipulation.

We call on political actors like Mr. Sheriff who appear uncomfortable with Nigeria’s growing democratic consciousness to cease the dissemination of propaganda and embrace fact-based, policy-focused engagement. Nigeria’s political evolution demands leaders who respect the will of the people and contribute meaningfully to national discourse.

The ADC National Media Frontiers reaffirms its dedication to truth, responsible political participation, and a future where leadership is rooted in values, vision, and verified facts not conjecture and cynicism.

Signed Hon. Ismail Haruna Director General, ADC National Media Frontiers
