President Bola Tinubu likened the current difficulties Nigerians face to the pain of a necessary economic surgery, assuring that the worst is behind the nation and better times lie ahead.
He made these remarks on Friday during the coronation of Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland at Mapo Hall, Ibadan.
Speaking to dignitaries and residents, Tinubu acknowledged that while the economy remains fragile, it is steadily recovering from its crisis. He expressed optimism, saying, “The economy has turned the corner. There’s a bright light at the end of the tunnel.”
Describing the citizens’ suffering as a crucial sacrifice, the President said, “Your suffering is a pain, a pain of a painful surgery. But it is now returned to the moment of growth and prosperity that’s awaiting us ahead. Thank you for your perseverance. Thank you for your endurance and thank you for your understanding.”
Tinubu arrived at the event at 2:28 pm, accompanied by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, with other governors from Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti states and several Federal Executive Council members also present.
The President took part in traditional coronation rites by receiving the Akoko leaf at the Labosinde Compound before the ceremony.
Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, succeeded the late Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan, who died on July 7, 2025, after a one-year reign.
The coronation, held nearly three months after Olakulehin’s passing, attracted prominent political figures and traditional rulers from across Nigeria, including the Sultan of Sokoto, the Alaafin of Oyo, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, among others. The event was also attended by former governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, and state lawmakers.
