At a recent event, former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, shared a powerful story that underscored the influence and foresight of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
Delivering the keynote address, Chidoka recounted how, at the young age of 34, El-Rufai identified his potential and recommended him to then-President Olusegun Obasanjo a gesture that would go on to change the course of his life and career.
According to Chidoka, El-Rufai’s faith in his abilities not only opened the doors of Aso Rock to him but also brought him into close proximity with the inner workings of Nigeria’s presidency. It was this pivotal introduction that set him on the path to becoming one of the youngest and most impactful public servants of his time.
In recognition of his brilliance, discipline, and innovative ideas, Chidoka was later appointed as the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), where he redefined the agency’s operations and brought in a new era of professionalism, technology-driven reforms, and public trust.
Reflecting on the moment, Chidoka expressed gratitude to El-Rufai for taking a chance on a young professional, describing him as a visionary leader who recognizes talent and empowers the next generation. His story stands as a testament to the lasting impact of mentorship and the power of leaders who open doors for others.
