A statement from Nigerian authorities has confirmed that former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a serious road traffic accident in Ogun State on Monday.

Joshua, 36, sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment following the crash, which occurred around lunchtime on a busy highway in Makun, approximately 30 miles from Lagos. Another person was also injured and hospitalised.

Tragically, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, both described as integral members of Joshua’s team, lost their lives in the incident. They were passengers in a black Lexus travelling with Joshua when the vehicle collided with a truck.

Authorities confirmed that Joshua and the other survivor are currently in stable condition.

Following the incident, many Nigerians have taken to social media to express anger and frustration, blaming the lack of emergency response services, particularly ambulances, for the loss of lives. According to them, the absence of immediate medical assistance may have worsened the outcome of the crash, reigniting national conversations about road safety and emergency infrastructure in the country.
