The Labour Party (LP) former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has rejected claims that he sought the support of Daniel Bwala during the 2023 election.
Bwala told Nigerian media personality Daddy Freeze that Obi allegedly used former President Olusegun Obasanjo to reach out to him for help in his campaign, but that he turned it down.
Speaking on Obi’s behalf, Ibrahim Umar called the claim false. In a Friday statement, Umar said the camp felt it was necessary to respond to prevent the public from being misled.
Obi Stands Against “Transactional Politics”
Umar stressed that Peter Obi avoids individuals involved in transactional politics. He said Obi never pays people to promote causes, instead relying on persuasion and collective effort to drive change.
“The Peter Obi that Nigerians know and appreciate will never engage in such practices,” Umar said. “He would rather provide desks for children in Bwala’s village than pay someone to spread lies.”
Obi’s team said his focus is on good governance and building a better society, and he encourages people to join voluntarily if they share his vision.
Call for Honesty
The statement concluded with a call for Bwala and others to “count Peter Obi out of their greed,” urging them to repent and join the movement for a better Nigeria, described as “POssible.”
