Former Senate Leader Ali Ndume has called on President Bola Tinubu to shift attention away from 2027 political plans and urgently tackle insecurity following deadly explosions in Maiduguri.

In a statement released to journalists in Abuja, Ndume, who represents Borno South, said the Federal Government must focus on protecting lives and property, stressing that the welfare and safety of citizens remain the government’s top duty.

He warned that ongoing violence in the North-East and other parts of the country is taking a heavy toll, noting that many of the very people expected to vote in future elections are being killed. According to him, leadership should be about immediate action, not just public statements.

Ndume pointed to the aftermath of recent attacks, including the Ngoshe killings, where many victims are still unaccounted for. He also demanded that those responsible for the Maiduguri bombings be found and brought to justice, urging stronger intelligence efforts and tighter security to prevent more tragedies.

While expressing sympathy for the Borno State government, affected residents, and grieving families, Ndume said a simple press statement from the presidency is not enough in a time of crisis.

He added that if President Tinubu is unable to visit the affected areas, he should send Vice President Kashim Shettima to show concern and reassure Nigerians that their suffering is being taken seriously.
