A police officer has been killed after a gun battle with suspected armed robbers along the Kakangi–Gagumi road in Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna State.

The attack happened around 3:15 in the afternoon on March 20. Security sources said police officers ran into the gunmen while on the road, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

Troops under Operation Fansan Yamma from the Birnin Gwari tactical base were quickly alerted and moved to the scene after getting a distress call. By the time they arrived, the attackers had already run away.

One source said the soldiers moved fast but the criminals escaped before they got there.

After the incident, troops increased patrols across the area to keep people safe and stop further attacks. They also helped move the body of the fallen officer to a mortuary.

Security forces have now stepped up their presence in the area and are working to track down the suspects who fled.
