As calls grow for the release of the records, President Donald Trump is being thanked for making sure the FBI admitted that drug trafficking related records concerning Nigerian President Bola Tinubu exist, unlike during the Biden years when, according to Dr. Von Batten Montague York, US authorities would not even admit that any records existed.
Von Batten made the claim in a statement posted on X, saying his team was informed that there are 399 pages of FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration documents linked to Tinubu.
The revelation, according to Von Batten, raises a major question: Why would the FBI and DEA have 399 pages of responsive records concerning Tinubu?
“This is Dr. Von Batten,” he said in his statement, explaining that when his team told him about the 399 pages, he initially thought he had heard the figure incorrectly.
Von Batten described 399 pages as “a book” and questioned what connection Tinubu had to a reported heroin trafficking organization to warrant such a large volume of FBI records.
He thanked Trump and his administration for what he described as greater transparency, saying the FBI’s acknowledgment that the records exist represents a significant change from the previous administration.
According to Von Batten, the Biden administration had refused to acknowledge that it possessed files concerning Tinubu. He said the Trump administration has now made clear that responsive records exist while also treating claims that releasing information could endanger Tinubu seriously.
Von Batten further argued that the Trump Justice Department is following the law while acknowledging that the records concerning Tinubu are connected to a serious drug trafficking investigation.
The growing calls for release of the records now place greater focus on what the 399 pages actually contain, why they were created and what connection, if any, they establish between Tinubu and his reported drug trafficking investigation.
Attention is now turning to the contents of the records and whether their release will provide further details about the investigation and the circumstances surrounding the FBI and DEA files.
