The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Saad Abubakar, has urged Nigerians to carefully examine politicians’ promises before deciding who to support in the 2027 general elections.
The Sultan spoke at his palace in Sokoto when he received the APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council led by its Director General, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar.
He advised voters to look beyond campaign speeches and consider whether the promises made by politicians can lead to real development and better lives for citizens.
The monarch also urged politicians to keep their campaigns peaceful and focused on issues that affect Nigerians. He warned against using insecurity and other national challenges as political weapons.
He said no government could completely eliminate insecurity and poverty, but leaders could work to reduce their effects on the people.
The Sultan called on citizens to remain alert during the political season and use their votes responsibly. He also prayed for peace, stability and better governance across Nigeria.
The APC delegation included Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu and Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal. Other senior politicians and members of the campaign council also attended the meeting.
The visit formed part of the APC campaign council’s early mobilisation and engagement with traditional leaders ahead of the 2027 elections.
