Hundreds of youths on Monday took to the streets of Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, in a protest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, chanting “Tinubu Must Go” and expressing dissatisfaction over the country’s economic and security situation.

The protesters converged at the popular Freedom Square junction, a major intersection linking several roads within the metropolis, where they displayed white T-shirts bearing the inscription “TINUBU MUST GO” and chanted solidarity songs.

The demonstration attracted considerable attention from residents, motorists and commuters, as protesters occupied parts of the major road, disrupting vehicular movement and causing traffic congestion around the area.

In videos circulating on social media, several young men and women were seen participating in the demonstration. Some female protesters wore colourful hijabs, while groups of male demonstrators moved around the area, with some riding motorcycles.

A vehicle equipped with a public address system was also seen at the centre of the gathering, while a cameraman recorded the proceedings.

One of the protesters, speaking in a video shared online, expressed frustration over the country’s economic and security challenges, saying: “We are tired of hunger, we are tired of killings. Tinubu must go. We need a better Nigeria.”

The protest comes amid growing public concerns over rising living costs, unemployment and persistent insecurity, particularly in Nigeria’s North-West region.

Zamfara remains one of the states severely affected by banditry, kidnappings and attacks on rural communities, leaving many residents concerned about their safety and livelihoods.

The demonstration also comes as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the slogan “Tinubu Must Go” increasingly featuring in public political discourse.

However, the organisers had not publicly released a detailed statement outlining their demands as of the time of filing this report. The Zamfara State Government and the state Police Command had also not issued official statements on the demonstration.

The exact number of participants and whether any arrests or injuries occurred had not been independently established.

The protest has drawn attention to growing public expressions of dissatisfaction over economic hardship and insecurity, particularly among residents of the North-West.

As the country approaches another election cycle, the demonstration in Gusau adds to the ongoing national debate over governance, economic policies, security and accountability.
