The Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former President of the Nigerian Senate, Mr. David Mark, has stated emphatically that the party has no preferred presidential aspirant for the 2027 general elections.

Addressing stakeholders from the Kogi State chapter of the ADC during a meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, Mark reaffirmed the party’s commitment to transparency and internal democracy under his leadership.

“The ADC has no preferred or favourite presidential aspirant,” he said. “What we are focused on now is building a strong, attractive, and inclusive platform that resonates with the majority of Nigerians.”

He stressed that the urgency to strengthen the party and offer an alternative for Nigerians stems from the dire need to rescue the nation.

“We do not want this great ship called Nigeria to sink,” Mark warned. “If we fail to act now, the consequences will affect all of us.”

Underscoring the inclusive philosophy of the party, Mark reminded attendees that all members are equal stakeholders.

“I don’t own this party more than any other member,” he said. “We are all equal joiners, equal stakeholders, and equal owners. Our unity and collective commitment will set us apart.”

He called on members to set aside personal differences and focus on consolidating the party’s structure and credibility before individual political ambitions come into play.

“Let’s build the house first before we start talking about rooms. Unity must come before ambition,” he added.

Mark also took a swipe at politicians who prioritize personal attacks over national discourse, urging a shift toward addressing critical national issues like insecurity. He noted that an ADC-led government would prioritize solutions to the country’s pressing challenges.

“Let’s focus on rebuilding Nigeria and securing a future for the generations to come,” he said.

In a related development, the National Legal Support Group for the ADC, represented by Mohammed Sheriff, raised concerns about an ongoing legal challenge allegedly filed by non-members of the party.

Sheriff revealed that names used in the lawsuit against the party’s interim leadership do not exist in either the physical or digital membership records of the ADC in Kogi and Nasarawa States.

Despite the legal distraction, Sheriff expressed confidence in the party’s legal position and announced that the support group is fully prepared to defend the ADC in court.

“We have mobilized a legal team of no fewer than 97 lawyers who are ready to stand for the party and ensure justice prevails,” she stated.

The ADC’s leadership and legal team remain focused on party unity, strategic restructuring, and creating a formidable platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
