The Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has firmly dismissed circulating social media reports that he endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
His media team described the claims as false misleading and a malicious unpatriotic attempt by individuals with selfish interests to drag the revered traditional and religious leader into partisan politics.
In a statement signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka the media team said the attention of the Sultan had been drawn to reports creating the impression that he had called on Nigerians to support Tinubu’s reelection. The response was clear. It is not possible for the Sultan as the father of all to make such a statement either publicly or in any other forum.
The Sultan has no preferred candidate among those who may contest the 2027 presidential race. He will not publicly or privately endorse any aspirant. His position as a traditional ruler and spiritual leader as President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs requires complete neutrality and impartiality. The institutions of monarchy and religion he leads function as father figure institutions. He therefore offers only fatherly royal and spiritual blessings as well as guidance to Nigerian politicians who seek his counsel.
The Sultan’s doors remain open to everyone regardless of political affiliation or persuasion. He has consistently demonstrated that he is the father of all and will continue to relate with all Nigerians without discrimination. Any engagement with political leaders or public office holders must not be interpreted as endorsement.
The media team urged Nigerians across all sectors to disregard and condemn the reports. It called on the public to reject any attempt to misrepresent the Sultan’s position or link him to the campaign or candidacy of any individual ahead of the 2027 general elections. The statement stressed his ongoing commitment to promoting peace unity stability and peaceful coexistence among Nigeria’s diverse peoples and faiths.
Media practitioners and social media users were appealed to exercise responsibility. They should verify information before circulating reports capable of misleading the public or unnecessarily dragging revered traditional and religious institutions into partisan controversies.
The clarification follows earlier viral claims that distorted remarks the Sultan made at the opening of the 2026 National Conference of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in Abuja. Fact checkers including DUBAWA established that those comments praised the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development and related reforms. They contained no reference to the 2027 election or any call to vote for Tinubu.
By rejecting the allegations the Sultan reaffirmed his role above partisan politics while remaining accessible to all and focused on national cohesion.
