Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, has affirmed his satisfaction with serving under President Bola Tinubu despite ongoing criticisms and speculation about his appointment.
Wike, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the sole opposition member in Tinubu’s cabinet, addressed the controversy during the PDP Congress in Rivers State.
Wike’s role as FCT Minister has fueled debates, with some suggesting his appointment was a reward for allegedly undermining former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate. Despite the speculation, Wike expressed no regrets about his decision, stating his contentment with his current position in the administration.
“We are fully in Tinubu’s government. I have no regret about it and I will continue to be there. Anybody who is angry should go and hug the transformer,” Wike declared.
His comments come amidst political tension within the PDP as members grapple with the reality of collaborating with an administration led by their main rival, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Wike also took the opportunity to criticize Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his estranged godson, and other PDP governors who recently supported Fubara at a caucus meeting in Taraba.
Addressing the situation, Wike warned, “Some governors say they will take the structure from us and give it to somebody. I hear that they have given assurances they will take the party from us. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states. When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace. Whether you are in Bauchi or elsewhere, your hands will get burnt. You will never see peace again.”
Wike further added, “So I’ve told them, now you have started, when I will start, don’t say I’m the one that destroyed PDP. You are the ones trying to destroy PDP. Allow Rivers State to manage the party’s affairs. We are aware of these unstable characters, and they are joining APP. Let them face us in the elections. Don’t worry about our responses; we have thick skin. We don’t even know what abuse is.”
With political dynamics shifting rapidly, Wike remains a controversial yet resolute figure in the current administration, undeterred by internal and external pressures.
