The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in response to escalating violence and instability.
Chief Tony Okocha, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the APC in Rivers, made this appeal during a media briefing in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
“Rivers State is at war,” Okocha stated. He emphasized that the individuals responsible for the chaos, which has resulted in multiple fatalities, are well-known. “The Governor is helpless, the police are helpless. Therefore, the APC in Rivers State is calling for a state of emergency as a means to control the ongoing mayhem and surge in violence,” he added.
The APC’s plea underscores the severity of the security challenges in Rivers State and calls for immediate federal intervention to protect lives and restore stability. The Federal Government has the authority to declare a state of emergency during situations such as natural disasters, civil unrest, armed conflict, medical pandemics, epidemics, or other biosecurity risks.
