In a shocking turn of events, bandits have kidnapped 16 residents from the Gonin Gora area of Kaduna metropolis. Their audacious demand for N40 trillion, 11 Hilux vans, and 150 brand new motorcycles in exchange for the victims’ release has left the community reeling.

John Yusuf, a respected community leader, revealed this alarming situation during a telephone interview on Monday in Kaduna. The sheer magnitude of the ransom demand has stunned everyone. Yusuf expressed the community’s desperation, stating, “Where are we going to find this kind of money? Even if we sold our entire community, we couldn’t raise N40 trillion. Not even Nigeria, as a nation, has ever budgeted such an astronomical amount.”

The bandits struck twice within a week, perpetrating abductions that have left the community traumatized. During the initial attack, three people were taken captive. Shockingly, in a subsequent assault, 13 more individuals were abducted, bringing the total number of hostages to 16.

Yusuf emphasized the urgent need for security measures. The vast, dense bushes surrounding Gonin Gora and extending to Birnin Gwari Local Government Area provide cover for criminal activities. He pleaded with the government to establish a military base behind their community to counter the bandits’ incursions.

“Our plea is simple,” Yusuf implored. “From our community to Birnin Gwari—a distance of over 150 kilometers—lies an expanse of wilderness. We also face another stretch of thickets from Gonin Gora to Niger State. The criminals exploit these natural corridors to infiltrate our community. We urgently need government intervention.”

Despite the challenges, Yusuf commended the Nigerian Army for their efforts in containing the bandit menace. Their dedication, even in the face of overwhelming odds, deserves recognition.
