On Monday, an unknown number of employees from Dangote Cement were kidnapped by armed assailants, with several staff members reportedly shot.

The incident occurred in the evening as the workers were returning from their duties. They were unexpectedly attacked by presumed bandits in Okpella, Edo, a locality close to Okene in Kogi state.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the exact number of injured individuals and the extent of their injuries remained uncertain as of Monday night. One witness reported, “Several of our colleagues are still unaccounted for in the wilderness. One of my coworkers has sustained gunshot wounds. Our staff-filled coaster bus was targeted at Okpella by the kidnappers.” The witness further added, “Our entire staff bus has been hijacked. The kidnappers have taken our colleagues.”

Michael Odofin, a representative for Okpella Cement Plc, verified the assault and subsequent kidnapping. He stated, “I am unable to provide any specifics at this moment. The attack just happened. Thankfully, we have no fatalities.”
